Evil Genius 2: The Joy of Being a Diabolical Mastermind

The world is my stage, and I take on the persona of a grand villain waiting to strategize and unleash chaos upon the world - I promise you! I find immense joy and satisfaction in building intricate schemes alongside crazy-themed lairs, even if this type of game is not my bread and butter, and I play occasionally. Although, even as I find that Evil Genius 2 fulfills my needs, I still long for limitless torture I can put below the heroes of the world.

A Layered Lair, but Not Quite Layered Enough

The moment you load up Evil Genius 2, you enter a world filled with stylish, absurdist villainy. It’s a nod of appreciation for the campy spy thriller genre, a genre that welcomes plans so illogical and convoluted that they tend to somehow work out in the end, not to mention volcano lairs and sharks with laser beams – and while the aesthetics nail the idea, the gameplay does not allow you to master the full evil genius fantasy.

With enough resources, the game does really shine by becoming deeply gratifying once again. Those traps and corridors guarded by fans that blow agents into a pit full of sharks really feel like an over-engineered puzzle. For good measure - a boxing glove on a spring shoves survivors into laser grids to zap the remaining few. The pits put everyone in a blissful state, watching everything unfold. The best part is laughing maniacally as the epitome of your well-crafted plans come together. Outsmarting enemies in an absurd fashion is the essence of the game that is captured in such moments.

A Tale of Global Domination

Not only does Evil Genius 2 permit the construction of your lair, but it also ensures the existence of an entire world waiting to be dominated. The side mandatory missions provide a charm to the already interesting narrative. Here, you are not limited to just being on rails - you are free to pursue plots of your own choice to set the tone of your infamous deeds. Would you like to take the Crown Jewels? Be my guest. Rather, blackmailing a powerful nation is more to your likes? That, too, is up for grabs. It is this freedom that makes the narrative so powerful.

You are equally trained on the relevant world map and on managing your controlled space. You cannot just enjoy the beautifully built base set up to impede those global super agents on your trail. It is a Multitasking Process to send the minions on missions, defend the lair, and work on expanding the operations. Although it does sometimes seem like a lot to deal with, it hardly ever gets too frustrating. There is a certain pattern to follow, a flow that engages you.

However, there is a bit of micromarketing that could use some improvement here. For example, when dead agents get piled up in the corridors, it is necessary to command your genius to get rid of them. Immersing yourself into this world becomes a little challenging as it is a tad annoying. There should be some neural net solutions that automate corpse elimination, right. That's what slaves are for.

Exploring the Trap

Traps are remarkable in themselves, and they are, without a doubt, one of the best features of Evil Genius 2. The game comes with classic traps from the previous version, like the boxing glove, and newer traps that are equally creative. Wish to put agents into a never-ending pit? Proceed. Need a freeze gun that makes them freeze in ice? That’s an additional choice. There is a sufficient range of traps that ensure one’s enjoyment while trying out new combinations.

One of the most prominent features of the game is how the traps correlate with the game’s comical theme. This game does not expect comprehension from the player, and this is a plus. Personally, I prefer Persona 5: Tactica to Evil Genius 2: World Domination. Every element, from the animations to the sound effects, was mimicked and made for the user to laugh. The soundtrack is also important because evil deeds were carried out on the premises. It takes the core of the original Evil Genius and multiplies it with modern flair, becoming the best accompaniment to the masterful acts. The vibe is set beautifully by the jazzy spy-thriller melodies, ensuring that the user feels like the ultimate villain.

Evil Genius 2 has adopted numerous accessibility settings and options for users, so it doesn’t matter if you are a veteran of strategy games or a novice, the game provides ample settings to customize the experience to your liking. It’s obvious the people designing the game wanted to include as many people as possible with adjustable difficulty and other features to manage the chaos.

Final Thoughts: It is an Absolute Joy, But There are Areas That Can Be Improved. On

In its simplest form, Evil Genius 2 is a game where you can metaphorically “let your inner villain out.” There are fun parts of the game when the developers fully embrace the absurdity of the concept and let you create ridiculous plots that, when executed, look spectacular. The aesthetic is on point, the humor is on another level, and the traps are exceptionally enjoyable. In case you might want to imagine being a classic Bond villain, then Evil Genius 2 will definitely be a good use of your time. Just practice your best evil laugh.
