3 Video Games That Are Better Than Others
Today I will pass my recommendation on a few games that I enjoyed lately. It is an eclectic list, short, and personal. I hope that you will find something interesting as I go beyond the beaten path of "normal" reviews, striving to provide insight from my perspective.
Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown
I am a nostalgic fan of Prince of Persia, a game with whom I had a great relationship since the first release when I had much more hair on my head. I was under the impression that the days of glory were gone for this franchise but here comes "The Lost Crown". For the kind of game it is, largely an action-adventure title, this is an impressive release. If you're a fan of the franchise, you must buy Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown. Many aspects are positive, but I will focus on one in particular. I'll say "combat is key" in Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, but fails to deliver on that promise. Here's a breakdown of why combat might be important and how it falls short in this game:
Why Combat Could Be Key in Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown
- Engaging Challenge: Well-designed combat can add another layer of depth and strategy to a platformer. It can test the player's reflexes and timing alongside their platforming skills. Imagine the Prince strategically dodging enemy attacks while maneuvering through a trap-laden room.
- Variety and Pacing: Combat can break up the monotony of pure platforming, offering a different kind of challenge and keeping the gameplay fresh. Think about strategically timed attacks adding a layer of excitement as you climb a treacherous wall.
- Storytelling: Combat encounters can be woven into the narrative, forcing the Prince to confront powerful foes or defend himself from relentless pursuers. Imagine defeating a monstrous guardian to unlock a hidden passage.
Marvel's Spider-Man 2
Spider-Man 2 needs no presentation and if you are aware of any of the previous Spider-Man and Miles Morales, you'll feel at home here. It is the kind of game that will hook you for long. It is also the game many will bitch about for not being this and that. Don't waste time reading negative reviews, just buy Marvel's Spider-Man 2 for PS5 (as it is a time-exclusive PlayStation 5 title) and enjoy it. What I like most about it may be beyond the technical aspects. It seems like Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is shaping up to be a game that truly understands what makes a superhero experience special.
That's an interesting point about Marvel's Spider-Man 2: the game focuses on capturing the true essence of being Spider-Man, not just the web-slinging and action. Here's a breakdown of why this might be the case:
- Beyond the Thrill: The article suggests great superhero games go beyond just offering a powerful character and cool abilities. It emphasizes capturing the character's core traits, including their struggles and responsibilities.
- Spider-Man's Duality: Spider-Man is known for his dual life as Peter Parker and the web-slinging hero. It seems Spider-Man 2 acknowledges that both sides – the everyday challenges and the superheroics – contribute to a compelling Spider-Man experience.
- Elevating the Genre: The text positions this focus on character depth as what separates truly great superhero games from the rest. It highlights how this approach has been successful in the best superhero stories as well.
What I am trying to suggest is that Marvel's Spider-Man 2 might deliver a more well-rounded experience than just a fun action game. It could potentially be a game that makes you feel like Spider-Man, not just play as him.
Dead by Daylight
The last game that I want to offer your attention today is Dead by Daylight. I believe this horror game deserves more attention. It is in a very competitive space, however, there are important features that distinguish it. I will highlight a few of its strong points here:
- Killer vs. Survivor Gameplay: The text mentions playing as both a Killer and a Survivor, which is the core gameplay of Dead by Daylight. Survivors need to use their experience and environment to escape the Killer's hunting ground.
- Progression System and Customization: The passage describes a deep progression system with unlockables for both Survivors and Killers. This is a key feature of Dead by Daylight, where players can earn perks and customize their characters to fit their playstyle.
- Unique Killers and Random Spawns: Dead by Daylight boasts a variety of Killers with unique powers, from iconic slashers like Michael Myers to original creations like the Trapper. The random spawn points for both Survivors and Killers keep each match fresh and unpredictable.
- Emphasis on Environment: The text highlights the importance of understanding the environment to outwit the Killer. This is crucial in Dead by Daylight, where Survivors need to utilize generators, hiding spots, and other map features to escape.
Dead by Daylight is a game that addresses a larger audience than those fans who always buy Xbox horror games. It is the correct choice ethically speaking as well: it supports a small and promising independent Canadian studio: Behaviour Interactive.
